| When we agreed to do it this year we did not schedule it on labor day weekend because we had a choice. We really didn't. It sort of fell into our laps late wnter and we came together after MUCH debate, and around feb/march we decided to do it. This was barely enough time to get everything together in time for labor day. The reason we chose labor day weekend was strictly due to Hallett's schedule. That friday was the only date they had available. Had we had a choice we would have scheduled the track day for sunday and this is why (should be obvious, but even alot of okies couldn't grasp it)..... If you schedule on friday, then you are cutting out a ton of local people who would show up but now can't because of their jobs, this leaves the track day to those who are taking off work and are travelling in....and only a fraction of them are going to track their cars so now your participation is limited significantly. Not to mention now you are forcing the travellers to take another day off work to get in a day earlier. Z's made up less than half of the entrants on our track day this year for these reasons, and Hallett is a really popular track. Track day needs to be sunday if there is going to be a car show, period dot. Plus it obviously makes little sense to do the track day the day before the show. People are too dang tired to detail a car at the crack of dawn or after a full day of track day heat. We learned our lesson on getting such a late start. So many businesses and vendors had already allocated their promotional budgets by the time we decided to do MZF, that it was thin pickings by spring/summer time. If you guys are going to do it, get on the horn and start begging for cash NOW. I would guess you already have a few primary sponsors in mind, but its the smaller contributers that really add up and are really difficult to land if you get as late a start on it as we did. The insurance is a pretty penny and I would imagine a track day at a brand new facility will cost quite a bit as well. We had a long talk about MZF and other club issues last month here as well, we more or less came to basic consensus that if we did MZF again that it would be earlier in the year, springtime, April or May. The summer really is chock full of events, lots of cars/owners don't make it through the summer or get burnt out. We felt it would be better to get people early and burn them out for the other events later than be at the bottom of the schedule watching our poool of potential participants dwindle all summer long. And that is basically a Cliffs notes of what we came away from MZF08 with. An event that in our opinion, despite all the obstacles and handicaps, was a pretty nice success. I personally have always wanted to visit Denver, I have never been, a MZF would be the perfect excuse. Work-permitting, I'd be there for sure.
